Binge-Worthy Candied Bacon with Tabañero Sriracha Honey Sauce
This binge-worthy candied bacon recipe with Tabañero Sriracha Honey Sauce yields four servings. If sharing is in the cards, this recipe can easily be doubled. Prep time is about five minutes, and cooking time is 20 minutes.
A quick tip: Use thin-cut bacon for this recipe. Thick-cut bacon takes too long to crisp up, and the brown sugar will burn by before it’s ready.
Equipment Used in this Recipe
- Baking sheet
- Aluminum foil
- Small mixing bowl
Ingredients
- ½ pound of original sliced bacon (not thick-cut)
- 1 ½ tablespoons of Tabañero Sriracha Honey Sauce
- ½ cup of brown sugar
Instructions
First, line a baking sheet with aluminum foil for easy cleanup. In a small mixing bowl, combine the brown sugar and Tabañero Sriracha Honey Sauce. The mixture should form a thick paste.
Line the bacon on the aluminum foil-lined baking sheet so the strips do not touch. Coat the top of each bacon strip with a thin layer of the sriracha sugar paste. Too much can cause uneven cooking or burning.
When the bacon is evenly coated with the sauce, place the baking sheet in a cold oven. This step will help the fat render out slowly without burning the bacon. Next, preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
Leave the bacon in the oven for about 20 minutes, rotating the pan if needed, especially if the oven has hot spots. Avoid flipping the strips so they get extra crispy. When done baking, the candied bacon should be crispy and dark around the edges.
Transfer the candied bacon strips from the baking sheet to a paper towel-coated plate or a cooling rack. This step will prevent sogginess and allow the excess fat to drain. As the candied bacon cools, it will become crispier.
Serve the candied bacon as a snack, or crumble it over salads and baked potatoes for a sweet and spicy twist. Store any leftover candied bacon in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days. Re-crisp the bacon in the oven if needed.
