Equipment Used in this Recipe
- 1 large mixing bowl
- 1 small mixing bowl
- 2 large skillets
Ingredients
- 1 pound of lean ground beef
- 1 cup of dry bread crumbs
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 eggs
- ½ teaspoon of kosher salt
- ½ teaspoon of freshly ground black pepper
- ¼ cup of vegetable oil
- 1 cup of ketchup
- ¼ cup of water
- ¼ cup of granulated sugar
- 4 tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tablespoons of Tabañero Sweet and Spicy Hot Sauce
Instructions
Add the ground beef, bread crumbs, onion, and eggs into a large mixing bowl. Season the meat mixture with salt and pepper. Use hands to blend the ingredients until well incorporated.
Scoop and roll the ground meat mixture into about 15 1-inch balls. Place the meatballs onto a cutting board or plate.
In a small bowl, combine the ketchup, sugar, water, Tabañero Sweet and Spicy Hot Sauce, and Worcestershire sauce. Pour the BBQ sauce mixture into a large skillet and warm over low heat.
While the BBQ sauce mixture heats up, grab another large skillet. Heat the skillet over medium heat and add the vegetable oil. Place six to eight meatballs in the skillet at a time, browning each side evenly.
Once browned on all sides, transfer the meatballs to the skillet with the warmed BBQ sauce. Cover the sweet and spicy BBQ meatballs with a lid while cooking the remaining meatballs in the other skillet.
Once all the meatballs are cooked and in the BBQ sauce, let them simmer, covered, for another 10 minutes. This simmering step allows the meatballs to soak up the Tabañero BBQ sauce. Add a few tablespoons of water if the sauce becomes too thick.
Serve warm with toothpicks to keep the obsessed from eating too many sweet and spicy BBQ meatballs at once.
