A new barbecue sauce has landed at Buc-ee's. Unlike many of the mega convenience store chain's Texas-inspired offerings, this one isn't from the Lone Star State. It's from South Florida.
Tabañero, a Delray Beach-based condiment company, has expanded into all Buc-ee's Travel Center locations across 13 states, bringing its lineup of 24 sauces and mixes, the brand announced Thursday.
That includes Tabañero's new "Florida-inspired barbecue" sauces which just rolled out earlier this month: Original, Everglades Gold, Habanero Honey, Apple Hickory, Smoked Pepperoncini, Bourbon Black Cherry and XXX.
According to Tabañero, the sauces draw influences from Southern, Caribbean, and Latin American cuisines, and boast a "lighter, brighter, more vibrant flavor profile than traditional barbecue sauces." The brand advertises clean ingredients, locally sourced produce, and half the sugar and calories of leading barbecue sauce brands.
Tabañero, which was founded in 2011, already has a presence in more than 8,500 retail locations nationwide, including Walmart and H-E-B. Its Buc-ee's debut marks one of the brand's largest travel retail expansions to date. It's now available at beaver stops in Texas, Florida, Georgia, Alabama and other Southern markets.
"Buc-ee's has become more than a convenience store—it's a destination," Tabañero Vice President of Marketing & Trade Operations Traci Mishner said in a statement. "We're excited to introduce Tabañero to a highly engaged customer base that actively seeks out new products and brands. This launch is another important step in our mission to make Tabañero more accessible to consumers wherever they shop, travel and dine."
Aside from its barbecue sauces, Tabañero's "tongue-tingling lineup" also features hot sauces, condiments, and cocktail mixes—made with ingredients that are all-natural, gluten-free, and kosher, with no artificial preservatives, additives or cheap fillers.
